Former astronaut Owen Garriott has been named interim director of the newly created National Space Science & Technology Center in Huntsville, Ala. In January, Garriott, left, and former astronaut Jim Lovell were part of an expedition team that journeyed to Antarctica to search for tiny life forms. They discovered living microorganisms in the ice and 20 meteorites for scientific research. (NASA)
