| Project ATLANTA is one of the urban heat studies being conducted by researchers at the Global Hydrology and Climate Center in Huntsville, Ala., jointly managed by NASAs Marshall Space Flight Center and the University of Alabama in Huntsville. This simulation shows how NASA remote sensing studies identify thermal "hot spots" in metropolitan Atlanta and its suburbs. It also shows potential weather phenomenon created by Atlantas sizeable urban heat island. With this information, city planners can determine ways to reduce the effects of the heat island by planting trees, installing reflective roofing and paving materials. |
